Symbols, icons, and the American way -- these are the fabric of my work. Like a quilt from old Americana, popular culture is an open market for consumerism, it is also a time to unveil this struggle for power, but being sensitive to a sense of the sublime.
My work is connected to both urban and rural sensibilities. The idea of finding alternative use in something abandoned is an integral part of both subcultures. The ability to create something out of the desperate is a strong influence on the work I produce. Signs, and found objects are all elements of my paintings.
The act of processing city life and all its textures and colors is how I assemble my elements. Walls, tattered and strewn with elements of graffiti and debris, begin to inform the viewer of life in the city. These different forms can be used as a new visual dialect coded through symbols or language (text). I utilize the tools and coded methods associated with graffiti in order to explicate my influence.
